8/11/24 - A lazy summer afternoon……
As I look around and I listen to thought and music that is recently released an #ArtistRenaissance is needed! The Digerati has totally taken down the idea of craftmanship for its digital and now A.I construct. With these constructs we have been in this race to the bottom! The affects are starting to be noticed in greater society. With the lost of beauty for disposable content we have arrived in a society that doesn’t care about art. Craft has been lost! We are now laden in the easy! With devices, computers, tablets and software apps ubiquitous we must now find our way back to craft and patience of craft.
We have now industrialized the many necessities of greater society which now have us not respecting anything! Easy breeds no respect! If you look at society as it it is now we must understand that easy breeds contempt for art because it takes time. It is not a microwavable meal but a slow cooked meal. We must get back to explaining the difference between artistry and creativity. We must go back to respecting craftsmanship. All of this digital output is disposable and forgotten! We have allowed ourselves due to all of this ‘technical innovation’ to now generate what I calling ‘disposable output’. The Digerati doesn’t care because the masses have done their job for them to feed ‘The D.I.C’ aka digital industrial complex.
We as a species have been packaged! During this time of the last twenty years the consumer has been replaced by the user! Those are two different entities and purposes. During this time we are have bred two generations who do not understand process and details. All they know is instant and when things are not instant it fuels frustration.
Art is not instant! It develops over time! Every museum displays what I am stating here. Michelangelo is definitely slow cooked. Art moves at it’s own beat! It is not industrial. It isn’t digitized! We now the view the world from the vision of the Digerati. We view from a position of I.D! My I.D translates to illusion and delusion.
I was speaking to a vocalist about how do we start a renaissance of artistry. For me vocalists are individuals who voice is an instrument. Those individuals are different from a singer! They do wonders with their voice. We were talking lyrics and I said nothing is making me pause. Nothing is making say I need to listen not just hear that song! Songs were once magical! They once suspended belief! They lit your imagination on fire! Now that event is now rare in this digital environment and will only denigrate much more with the A.I set up to be part of our daily life even more going forward.
I grew up when the goal was the best! Now the goal is I can……. So why not! We have been told we are special. However, the goal use to be Unique not special. This is why I am stating an artistic renaissance is so needed before we lose art for innovation. We lose ‘production for generative output’. We must not let art be drowned out by this flimsy innovation based on the Digerati’s vision. I question the Digerati’s and the data lifestyle dictating so many decisions we shall not see another Taylor Swift or Beyonce for the immediate time period with this system in place. Data and technology doesn’t feed artistry it feeds ‘surface creativity’. Art right now is being starved. #DATAISNOTART! Art has mind of its own. Art walks to its own beat! It doesn’t fit in….. In fact #ARTFITSOUT!
The damage to music is starting to be noticed. Warner Brothers said they can survive without a superstar being made. This translate to me that Digerati and its data have taken over at that company. Art has lost out to innovation. My question for youngsters is if you are watching and listening to the 90s music at this time so intently then what are you leaving behind? Where is the legacy for your generation? As we forge ahead I am concerned! The cracks are obvious but for the many they have to wait to notice until it is a catastrophe. I am letting you know this here and now. Please bring this up in random conversations make people notice.
In closing, it is time to begin an artistic renaissance before the Digerati and its innovation kills artistry. Artistry has the potential to obliterated during this time period. Just as a reference to remember Spotify was created by hackers and now people believe Spotify is the definition of music to this era of consumers. Spotify is not in the music business. Daniel Elk has put his foot in mouth recently May 2024 by stating that content is essentially free! Content I am stating here is not art! Content is creativity. We must know going forward that they are different.

I hear your frustration, but I am optimistic, despite being a writer who recognises the AI gorilla bearing down. I think any among us who has artistic potential, who lands in fertile ground - meaning that their potential is able to become talent because it gets opportunity through education or association - will produce art, no matter how much AI output happens.
Sure, if no adult values art, no child will believe it is important, and they will channel their drive elsewhere. But I don't think that will happen. Even in a future world with a million AI digitally rendered paintings, there will still be a place for a painter. I choose to believe so, anyway.
