I wasn’t going to do a column around black history month because in my mind what is called black history is really #AmericanHistory! What has been called black history also should not be in the shortest month of the year because it so dominates what is called American history. I have always found it quite reprehensible once you begin to dig into American history that black history is pivotal all through out of its 248 year history! American history essentially means #CaucasianHistory but not all Caucasians! That is what is also reprehensible and has tricked many Caucasians throughout the history of America.
How could black history be just in February when it is a crucial component due to the mentions in the ‘constipation’ aka the Constitution via what is the called the 3/5th clause? This clause was meant to answer the #SlaveQuestion aka the black question! Now let’s get to clause:
Article One, Section two of the constitution of the United States declared that any person who was not free would be counted as 3/5th of a free individual for the purposes of determining congressional representation. Three out of five slaves was counted when determining a states population for legislative representation and taxation.
This clause effectively gives the southern states more power in the House relative to the northern states at the formation of the Union. James Wilson and Roger Sherman first introduced the idea of the 3/5ths compromise June 11th 1787. Wilson offered compromise to solve the impasse that was holding up the ratification process.
This also impacted how the Presidency was settle via the #ElectoralCollege. Connected to this was Congress was prohibited from outlawing the slave trade for twenty years at the formation of the Union! Also a ‘fugitive slave clause’ required the return of runaway slaves to their owners. Also, in the Constitution the federal government had the power to put down domestic rebellions which included slave insurrections!
In Clause Three of the Constitution slavery is dealt with directly: No person held to service or labor in one state, under the laws there of, escaping into another, shall, inconsequence of any law or regulation there in, be discharged from the service or labor may be due.
Without this clause there is no Union! This was a hot topic during the Constitutional convention. Blacks were viewed as chattel not human! This is still in the arteries and veins of America and does appear to be lessening but is very much still in the body of America. So please now ‘riddle me this’….. How is quote unquote black history not American history! The 3/5th clause gave the south more representatives in the House and more control over taxes. The south wanted no 3/5ths clause but wanted to count slaves 5/5ths as a whole person yet obviously they couldn’t vote because they had no constitutional rights because they were not human.
The beauty of the constitution is there are apparently no words of race or color, black or white or slave or slavery! The constitution uses what is called circumlocution! That is defined as…….use of many words where fewer would do, especially in a deliberate attempt to be vague or evasive. The people called the founding fathers were apparently experts in this! To avoid slave they used person held to service or labor…….. I find it quite genius yet obviously reprehensible. It also displays the power of education! The power of reading and it defines why slaves were not allowed to read and blacks who were free often not allowed to be learned.
All of this makes sense on why blacks were not given access to resources throughout the history of America. This also explains the tumult of many blacks throughout the history of America! I know that many do not wish to accept what was just written because it would then change much of what is called history. The history much of us have come to accept as the gospel would have to be totally reinterpreted! If you can now swallow this you can begin to see that this is a well thought out and systemic procedure which is quite dynamic that has been done since the birth of this nation. I can only hope it allows you to reinterpret the world in front of you . End of part one.
