My assist for new Substack writers

Recently I had 4 new writers contact me about how to expand their profile on ‘The Stack’. I was dumbfounded because I learn everyday. I do not see myself as ‘The Expert’. Well after some reflection…. I decided to give it some thought. This is what I will say here…….

For me I will say here it has been a slow groove to arrive here now. It was trial and error! That is the old fashion way. I have always viewed the world as a process not a hack! I feel due to the tech invasiveness in folks daily life, more and more of our existence is defined by ‘The Digerati’. Folks are seeking that ‘magic bullet’! In tech speak most of us are now trained to look for that one hack! In my first book aka ‘Instrument of Change’ Live Digital or Be Irrelevant’, I have labeled this the ‘diet pill syndrome’. I have learned in life it is not one thing but an evolving amalgamation of unexpected random things and events that create this goulash we call life.

When I started on “The Stack’, I was stressing about coming up with material aka output for people to read and engage with. I was stuck on that. I was focusing on giving my best forward thought stream. However, I was not getting traction. I was getting out 2-3 columns a week. I thought it was about volume. I was wrong! Then after 4-5 months settled down to one a week on a specific day. I chose Tuesday. That took pressure off of me to keep coming up with topics, angles, and stories. I got a little traction but not much more. It wasn’t about my work as much as I thought!

Then I started sniffing around ‘The Stack’ and checking out other writers. It was a nice discovery process to meet up with other minds. Just getting the vibes from other writers. That is when it started to click! The click was not my output but the others output. Become a consumer not a producer! I had to invest time which is the most valuable resource we all possess. I can now look back and be glad I did.

From there I started to leave comments. I found that people cared to respond so I then responded back. This created dialogue! This created connection! From their a funny thing happened….. those others started engaging with my output. Then I started recommending a few. I then subscribed to others who added value in my day and week! Then I interacted directly with fellow writers and individuals who started subscribing to my periodical Creative Philosophical Fireworks.

From there consistent interaction took place. This led to engagement consistently with dozens of individuals which truly introduced me to what Substack can offer you as a individual. That is what C2.R2.I.E means! It was about comment consistently. Recommend and respond. Show that you are real show that you care. Interaction shows your opinions and thought structure. Engagement shows personality and who you are. So this has been my Substack journey. Just being honest and truthful while connecting is the essence of being a human being. Hope this helps others.
