I come across massive amounts of information on a daily basis. I saw something called ‘The Sons of Confederate Veterans’ which made me pause. The organization’s mission is to preserve Confederate history. This should be preserved so history doesn’t get censored! However, I wanted to see what was being said by this organization. Below is what I found……
‘To you, Sons of Confederate Veterans, we will commit the vindication of the cause for which we fought. To your strength will be given the defense of the Confederate soldiers good name, the guardianship of his history, the emulation of his virtues, the perpetuation of those principles which he loved and which you love also, and those ideals which made him glorious and which you also cherish’
Lt. General Stephen Dill Lee, Commander General, United Confederate Veterans, New Orleans, Louisiana, April 25th, 1906
The Sons of Confederate Veterans, in furtherance of the Charge of Lieutenant General Stephen D. Lee, shall be strictly patriotic, historical, educational, fraternal, benevolent, non-political, non racial and nonsectarian. The Sons of Confederate Veterans neither espouses acts or ideologies of racial and religious bigotry, and further, condemns the misuse of its sacred symbols and flags in the conduct of same. Each member is expected to perform his full duty as a citizen according to his own conscience and understanding.
The citizen-soldiers who fought for the Confederacy personified the best qualities of America. The preservation of liberty and freedom was the motivating factor in the South’s decision to fight the Second American Revolution. The tenacity with which Confederate soldiers fought underscored their belief in the rights guaranteed by the Constitution. These attributes are the underpinning of our democratic society and represent the foundation on which this nation was built.
Today , the Sons of Confederate Veterans is preserving the history and legacy of these heroes so that future generations can understand the motives that animated the Southern cause.
The SCV is the direct heir of the United Confederate Veterans, and the oldest hereditary organization for male descendants of Confederate soldiers. Organized at Richmond, Virginia in 1896, the SCV continues to serve as a historical, patriotic, and non political organization dedicated to ensuring that a true history of the 1861-1865 period is preserved.
Membership in the Sons of Confederate Veterans is open to all male descendants of any veteran who served honorably in the Confederate armed forces.
Now that is a lot to unpack isn’t it. Let’s go back to paragraph two….. where it states it is non racial and non political. How can that be? How can that be someone please tell me. The paragraph also states it neither espouses acts of ideologies of racial and religious bigotry…….. How can that be when the war was based on racial bigotry and white Christian hatred towards the black slaves? They taught the slaves this Christianity but God was essentially not for the slaves! Christianity was a blunt instrument to keep them enslaved utilizing the same God! Let’s go to paragraph 3……… The citizen soldiers fought for the Confederacy personified the best qualities of America……… Such as? The preservation of liberty and freedom was the motivating factor in the South’s decision to to fight the second American revolution……. Whose preservation of liberty and freedom are we discussing? I was frozen after reading that one! This last one…… The tenacity with which Confederate soldiers fought underscored there rights guaranteed by the Constitution…….. This statement was obviously based on the original document written in 1787 which I discussed in part one…… Bringing up the 3/5ths clause. It would appear that the organization is basing itself on that clause! The organization is using circumlocution similar to our founding fathers who wrote the Constitution! With that I will jump to what is a counter point.
The counterpoint is the 13th/14th/15th amendments which were conceived post the civil war or according to the Sons of Confederate Veterans the second American Revolution. What I am about to state is an excerpt from my book due in 2025 ‘The American Dream the Next Generation’. Those amendments I will make a gross assumption the SCV does not agree with these amendments that have altered the landscape of America! Let’s get started!
These amendments were the consciousness of America to right a wrong! However, it is incomplete as we go deeper into the 2020’s. This will be a crucial misunderstanding that I will make an attempt here to explain via a reimagined altered context. Let’s set the tone:
The 13th amendment abolished slavery
The 14th amendment gave citizenship to all people born in the U.S
The 15th amendment gave black Americans the right to vote.
These have been labeled ‘the reconstruction amendments’ or the Civil War amendments and were adopted between 1865-1870. These were the central solutions to correct the inherent wrong of slavery in the south and the greater black issues in the north since America was conceived. The amendments addressed questions to the legal and political status of people who at the time were labeled negro or the harsher term of niggers! The amendments were intended to guarantee the freedom of the former slaves and also the black union soldiers who had signed up to help the Lincoln administration maintain the Union. These amendments were to grant certain civil rights to the negroes and all citizens of the United States from discrimination.
The impetus for all of this was black Americans aka former slaves! The slaves were not considered Americans! The slaves were also not citizens……..they didn’t count. Blacks were chattel! Blacks were economic instruments. Blacks were social outcasts! Blacks were considered inhumane.
Here is a little known thought pathway that is lost to history. What these amendments did was ‘niggerize’ the poor whites who were not happy about these amendments which altered the scope of the United States in many unsaid ways. However , the promise of these amendments was eroded by state laws and federal court decisions throughout the late 18th century. These were not recognized Supreme Court decision or Brown versus Board of Education in 1954 and laws such as the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the Voting Rights Act of 1965 according to Wikipedia.
Now lets go back to the SCV and now look at the amendments. Please leave comments please. The question is then are blacks human? Should blacks have the same rights as others? Do we still maintain the 3/5ths mentality? End of part two.
