The issue is tricknology is being used to turn a J-O-B into work! You say what is the difference? A j-o-b is what the social contract gave us and now we have devolved to just work. This means we are going backwards! Work means you have no benefits or protections as an individual. The issue is we are in what I am calling the ‘delivery boy’ economy! It was a job for 12-17 years old. Now it is evolved to a profession for a grownup on a bike/scooter. People are doing child like things as adults now. We are running around on scooters and work as delivery people.

The so called gig economy is a term borrowed by the technologist from the music business. When I came up only musicians used that term! Only mobile DJs used that term. Only actors used that term. The issue is terminology to start off. Individuals didn’t not need the app to gig. Folks hustled on their own terms. Now the app is in the way.

The app has to make it’s money first before the gig worker see’s the money. The gig worker is essentially allowing the app to be their agent! The app is the De facto agency. The gig economy will always be there without the app. It is just localized as it was on the past. The app has now created a organization that has no head! The gig worker was someone who wanted what was called a ‘turn key’ operation for themselves. They wanted a cash carry gig. No one knows about the cash. What the app has done is create a ‘taxable event’ now! That is what they have done for the masses. Now governments will be able to tax the lowest part of society when in the past that money was unaccountable to the government yet it still flowed through the economy. The government doesn’t need to know all of what the populace is doing! Now the governments have that capability worldwide. The gig worker was under the radar prior to the app culture!

The gig economy was nobody’s business but the people who were involved. The temp employer (payer) and the temp employee (payee). That was it and it was that much simple. Now since a lot is done electronically tips are being counted when that was not the case in the past. The tax authorities will now have the information. If you are a gig worker you are considered for all intents n purpose at the bottom of the economic chain. No benefits or protection. Your protection was being lost within the system and could avoid many taxable events. All of the cash for doing the gig went to the worker! The gig worker needs every penny. The only protection is the flexibility! You could do other things when not gigging like make auditions while chasing your big break! This is why traditionally creatives loved the freelance work so they could pursue their true profession. College students also were prominent.

With the app organization the gig worker is now worse position because they are now at the mercy of the algorithm of the site they are on. The gig worker has lost autonomy due to this. There freedom has also been usurped. I feel that the app allows that gig worker to get sucked into a life and lifestyle that is temporary! The app gives it a sense of permanency. That benefits the app! The app doesn’t have to treat the worker like an employee that is why the job was delivery boy not delivery man! Children did the job for more money than parental allowance. We have now due to the app created the delivery man! No one owes each other anything but the app is the accounting department. It all boils down to the money.

The technology allows that money to be traced now. The Biden administration lowered the threshold on Venmo from 20K to now 600.00 dollars tells you who that adjustment is pointed at. The gig entrepreneur who is just surviving. For the most part they are existing check to check but delivery to delivery. The organization adds in the government regulation which takes away the purpose of gigging. Gigging wasn’t meant to have the accoutrements of a j-o-b. It is a temp thing. Give me my money at the end of the day!

The fast food worker is used a s a symbol of gig economy, yet that false. The fast food worker is employed by a large corporation. Again that job was like a delivery boy or retirees. It was not for individuals at the height of there earning capability. The economy now has been altered to a ‘institutional bottom feeder’ lifestyle. The purpose was to start at these jobs not ‘fight for 15’ and stay there!

In the past you started and left the gig quickly! No loyalty! You came and went. It was part time for real. Now the gig economy effect has created these sub permanent low level gigs for adults who are suppose on there way up in the economy. That is a factor that has been lost in this new so called innovative economy. The economy is now in a stagnation. The growth economy has exhausted itself. The gig economy has just professionalized the bottom of society! Who is the ultimate benefactor? The Digerati who treats those full time workers as contractors! Through this quote unquote innovation the social contract has been obliterated in the name of technological innovation. This is not your typical PR typical puff piece celebrating technology!
