6/21/17 - 6/21/25 End of an era
So much has happened since I started this unexpected journey of business design reevaluation eight summers ago. I believed it to be a short engagement but it just became open ended as discoveries just became so expansive. My initial research culminated in a book named Live Digital or Be Irrelevant. Then we got hot and heavy with the Covid 19 apparatus, which got all in the way of all our existence! With that event, I saw that life as I knew it was gone! It froze me and due to the nefarious actions by corporate and government collusion I could not accept anything those interest were telling us via the media.
I saw a new reality and then I said a new vision/framework was needed. I had to literally build from the ground up! Make it up as I went along. So now here I am! I have realigned…. rethought….rebuilt…rerealitied! Now the fun starts. Life now for me is O.A.T’s = Occupation Attention Time and what shall I do with it. Everything is at risk as we engage in the various new frameworks/systems/realities. Keep your head on a swivel! I will end this with a quote:
He who has a why to live for can bear with almost anyhow. Friedrich Nietzche
Without further adieu this week’s column will define what was just said…

As I observe the media, I sometimes have to pull back the curtain! I sometimes have to call a timeout… I sometimes have to call an audible. I must do this to not lose sight of the Panoramic view. In this information 24/7 over load you can get flooded. I realize that the real battle going on is not what it seems…. It is about the supremacy of standards going onward in the 21st century.
Standards are what cements what is the crux in the 21st century where ‘soft power’ gives nations power over others. Throughout history we have seen opportunities come up and they then alter the powers that be going forward. The masses of individuals are usually unconscious of the change taking place. I will say here and now we may be in one of those historic moments!
This is a epoch in history that is up for grabs! The standards for the international economy are being hashed and played out right in front of us. We see it yet are not fully conscious of the battle taking place. What will be labeled the battle for A.I supremacy between American interests and Chinese interests. In the 1880’s - 1890’s it was the battle for electrical supremacy… AC vs. DC. Now it is west versus east. The west has been on top for awhile now… many centuries! Now with A.I standards at stake the questions must be asked who will set the standard? Where do we go from here?
Right now we are essentially laying the pipes for this system! The frameworks for it! The linguistic battle is going on. The financial battle is going on between the dollar and the international community. The cultural battle is taking place especially via the internet. The internet is an American invention is led by the English language. China’s internet is led by Mandarin. English from the time of Great Britain (England) empire has been the 'reserve language’ of the world.
Energy is the crucial thing for A.I to develop. It has become known it will be massive amounts of energy for this to take place. Just like a growing child needs more and food… A.I will need more and more energy. In a article on https://newstarget.com the title was China’s Galactic Gamble: An orbiting Solar Array to Revolutionize Renewable Energy. Apparently China plans to build a massive 0.6 mile wide - solar power station in geostationary orbit, 22,370 miles above the earth capable of generating energy equivalent to all the earth’s oil reserves in one year.
The space based solar plan would be able to collect solar energy continuously, unaffected by weather, day - night cycles, or seasons, offering a virtually limitless and clean energy source. The very ambitious initiative is being likened to another three Gorges Dam Project above the earth, aims to overcome the limitation of terrestrial solar power by harnessing the sun’s energy in space, where it is 10x more intense than on the planet’s surface.
This concept of exploring space based solar power. The concept often referred to as ‘The Manhattan Project’ of the energy sector that has been discussed in scientific circles for decades.
With all of this pursuit of energy A.I will discombobulate societal culture as the whole idea of labor and employment will altered immensely. The questions that need to be answered is who or what is responsible for autonomous A.I when it makes a costly mistake? Regulators/regulations/governments/legislators world wide are currently unequipped to handle these fully independent agents. China is going full steam apparently!
As someone who that is very passionate and on the pulse on this A.I issue going forward, I may have to reassess certain things I feel. I will not however back off of Silicon Valley being a criminal enterprise by not paying attention to copyright law. Yet as you can see this is a dynamic issue that will not shrink! If anything it will expand the battle because of the standards that are at stake.
This is why we are in this race for energy! The whole energy question is the focus. We are going towards an internet that will be robot to robot or machine to machine. It will be less human to robot. Synthetic will rule. The human will be in the minority.
In a article from www.freethink.com 10/25/24 titled ‘Charting the race For Energy in the Age of A.I’. Our future economy of A.I, the cloud, and crypto mining have skyrocketed demand for computing power and electricity. According to the article data centers are the critical backbone of A.I’s explosive growth in the last few years. With A.I relying on immense data processing power, placing enormous demands on data to be very efficient. With A.I continues to advance and grow, these centers are pulling tons of electricity, creating huge pressure (and incentives) to become more energy efficient.
According to estimates from the International Energy Agency, the rapid growth of A.I and traditional data centers is poised to significantly increase global energy demands. By 2026, the electricity required to support these facilities is going to be massive roughly double what huge economies like France or Texas consume in a year. The big cloud providers like Amazon Web Services, Google Cloud and Microsoft Azure have improved power usage Effectiveness so most of their energy goes to computing, not cooling. The bigger the more efficient.
In Quartz, an article titled Amazon is joining Google and Microsoft in going big on Nuclear Power. The future is set up, A.I will be an overeater of electricity! The contracts and money signed off on working with Nuclear power companies. Amazon has signed three agreements to support the development of nuclear energy projects. The agreements including building several ‘ small modular reactors’ (SMRS). These advanced nuclear reactors have a smaller physical footprint, allowing them to be built closer to the grid. Also, the big bonus is the SMRs can be brought online much faster.
Amazon’s agreement with Washington based Energy Northwest will produce four advanced SMRs which ill be built, owned, and operated by the utilities consortium. With the tech giant investment in the reactors and fuel developer X-Energy. The X-energy design for advanced nuclear reactors will be used for Amazon’s project with Energy Northwest. Amazon is also working with Virginia based Dominion Energy the companies will develop an SMR near the utility company’s North Anna Nuclear Generating Station.
Here is a major fact on ChatGPT needs almost 10 times as much electricity as a Google search, according to a study by Goldman Sachs. Ami Badani, chief marketing officer of British chip designer ARM, said data centers powering A.I chatbots such as Open AI’s ChatGPT account for 2 percent of global electricity consumption.
Data centers, which are in demand as companies continue developing larger, more powerful models, that can CONSUME ELECTRICITY IN THE U.S by 2030 more than double what is being used now, according to the Electric Power Research Institute. Also, in July 2024, the Wall Street Journal reported that a third of the U.S.’s nuclear power plants were discussing deals with tech companies to supply electricity for data centers.
Google announced it had signed the world’s first corporate agreement to purchase nuclear energy from SMRs developed by California based Kairos Power. Google will bring Kairos Power’s first SMR online by the end of the decade. Other reactors will be deployed through 2035.
Microsoft and Constellation announced a 20 year power purchase agreement in September 2024, that would restart the Unit 1 reactor on Three Mile Island. Through the deal the launch the Crane Clean Energy Center (CCEC), Microsoft will purchase energy from the unit 1 reactor as part of its sustainability goal. The CCEC, is expected to come online by 2028, will add more than 800 MW to the power grid, as study by the Pennsylvania Building and Construction trades Council found. This is where your electricity will be headed going forward. See you next Tuesday 7/1/25

It is very interesting to monitor AI's need of energy. That brings attention to a vulnerability that is not discussed enough and a problem that will keep accelerating as we integrate AI in all industries and processes. I also think that it is a good moment to honor and notice the productivity and efficiency of humans. We can produce a wealth of inputs for fraction of the energy that an AI needs. I find this fascinating.
Great post. Competing AI databank superservers are built on the "gas guzzler". They suck energy from three domains: solar energy harvesting + SMR's exactly as you describe, plus massive amounts of terrestrial water from streams and aquifers. Water and sunlight in the right proportion are the twin sources of "natural intelligence" required for the viability of all ecosystems. Massive amounts of water are being diverted towards AI server cooling systems. AI servers contribute the most towards global warming and threaten to desertify the planet.
