It is very interesting to monitor AI's need of energy. That brings attention to a vulnerability that is not discussed enough and a problem that will keep accelerating as we integrate AI in all industries and processes. I also think that it is a good moment to honor and notice the productivity and efficiency of humans. We can produce a wealth of inputs for fraction of the energy that an AI needs. I find this fascinating.

Well put. Can we have a "Just Stop AI" movement?

I don't think it requires complete stopping and neither it is possible. AI could be used for the positive advancement of humanity. However, it requires proper management and rules of ethical application. I.e. it should not exchange human relations but it can be used for large data processing. The problem with what I am saying is that humanity does not have a good track record in successfuly monitoring and managing projects of such scope. But then again, maybe what's at stake here will help us grow and find solutions. There are examples of that in history.

Totally agree. My comment was more to do with these kinds of single issue protests that fail to take into account the big picture. We have governments nagging us about net zero and carbon neutral, while at the same time silent about issues such as the massive power usage of AI.

yes, exactly my thought.

Oh, absolutely. We need to demand attention to this issue. And yes, there is too much energy spent on nonsense while the big issues that need focus are in the shadows. Couldn't agree more.

Great post. Competing AI databank superservers are built on the "gas guzzler". They suck energy from three domains: solar energy harvesting + SMR's exactly as you describe, plus massive amounts of terrestrial water from streams and aquifers. Water and sunlight in the right proportion are the twin sources of "natural intelligence" required for the viability of all ecosystems. Massive amounts of water are being diverted towards AI server cooling systems. AI servers contribute the most towards global warming and threaten to desertify the planet.

Luv your gas guzzler analogy!!! These interests talk about climate and they are the ones enhancing this mess! These interest just want all of the resources for what they are setting up! They wish to just to continue make the everyday person feel guilty as they suck up the resources.

What struck me most when I read this, is your recognition and emphasis that we're living through a pivotal moment where new global power structures are emerging. Whether it's currency systems, technological standards, or energy infrastructure, the decisions made now will echo for decades. The question isn't whether AI will reshape geopolitics - it's whether we'll be conscious participants in that reshaping or just swept along by forces we don't fully understand. It's a fascinating age we are living in, with very high stakes for humanity.

yes it is a pivotal moment!! Exactly it is not whether A.I will shape geopolitics but what and how it will impact individuals. Yes we are walking in history....

"A.I will be an overeater of electricity! " unsustainable! They bare already harvesting the hell out of our human 1200 watt daily energy.

"ChatGPT needs almost 10 times as much electricity as a Google search," disgusting hogs.

"Microsoft and Constellation announced a 20 year power purchase agreement in September 2024, that would restart the Unit 1 reactor on Three Mile Island. "

a clear act of WAR.

How would the Chinese energy be transferred to the ground?

One hell of a weapon.
