As I look around and observe, I notice that our lifestyle is under duress by particles! All around, I see media about inadequate electrical grid, yet all of the so called innovation revolves around electricity! However, our grid has been known to be lackluster for quite a number of decades! Now we birthed A.I which our future trillion dollar economy is based on! It is projected that we shall not have enough of our electrical grid updated enough in the next decade. Our electric utilities can’t build fast enough to keep up. Our whole existence is being bet on something we will not have enough of. Don’t you see the mess on aisle 6!!
Our whole national security revolves around this also! The biggest user of this electricity is Silicon Valley’s Digerati’s A.I industry.
While the public has been beaten in the head about being conscious of your energy usage, The A.I industry has just been expanding and expanding it’s intake of electricity. It is so greedy for electricity now, that the industry with all of their silicon based data centers going up to be the anchor of our global economy I call ‘The gobbler’. Of course, it shall be reported as a necessity for national security! This will affect the everyday consumer households.
Essentially for the next decade we will be in a so called energy crisis because our electric grid was built for analogue not digital. Now with the success of ChatGPT McKinsey has predicted that U.S electricity would soar by 25% due to those said data centers with the use of A.I expanding exponentially.
Solar and wind could be a solution but the U.S unlike China doesn’t have the infrastructure in place. Apparently you need long distance transmission which requires what is called (UHV) cabling that carries at least 800,000 volts according to research. China it appears has 50k miles of these UHV cabling and adds thousands of miles yearly.
Apparently for the U.S.A to get up to par it will cost two trillion dollars to get us up to snuff. This has made the giant tech companies to decide to bypass the grid by developing their own dedicated sources of electricity 24/7 because a data center operates around the clock. Also, nuclear power has been brought to the table. Apparently small modular reactors make a bid to be part of the solution. However, nuclear will not be in play to the 2030’s.
The state of Oregon is an example of a state government using tax incentives to these data centers. Oregon has 125 of these data centers as we live in 2025 of course the usual suspects Amazon, Apple, Google, Oracle and Meta. Now the flipside to these centers is that electricity will expand. The price of electricity is rising while the corps receive tax breaks due to the fact of the corporations dangling jobs. Most of the jobs are long term temporary. These are few permanent jobs.
When you are engaging with A.I it needs electricity 24/7! In fact, the A.I needs it more than humans. A.I without electricity and it is D.O.A aka dead on arrival! Please realize these interests have created another entity/specimen that is in competition for resources also. We are in a brave new world!
Due to all of this A.I expansion coming in the next decade we shall have to make adjustments in how we go about what this article is about. A lot of this increase of electricity will because of the A.I data center energy use. The data center energy use is expected to double by 2030. Now what is called cutting edge energy solutions are being investigated. Google’s data centers use roughly 5 terawatt hours annually - an equivalent of providing power to 400000 U.S homes! Data centers, are the backbone of the digital age, are experiencing explosive growth, consuming 1.5 percent of the world’s electricity in 2024. This is projected to more than double by 2030,surpassing Japan’s total electricity consumption.
The United States leads global data center electricity consumption at 45 percent, followed by China at 25 percent and Europe 15 percent. In the U.S, Virginia alone consumes a quarter of the state’s electricity due to its concentration of data centers.
Our immediate future is a massive energy infrastructure overhaul to support the A.I economy. A.I is consuming more energy than some heavy industries.. This infrastructure is the backbone of this digital artificial intelligence complex. According to the article, a typical data center already consumes as much electricity as 100,000 homes. Just to understand the math and the exponential behavior the new generation of mega data centers under construction will consume 20 more times, equivalent to adding two million homes to the grid. It is projected by the end of the decade, the country will consume more electricity for more electricity for data centers than producing aluminum, steel, cement, chemicals and all other energy intensive goods combined.

On 5/23/25 OpenAI announced that it is expanding its Stargate data center project to the Middle East. Apparently Stargate UAE, will bring a 1GW data center cluster to Abu Dhabi. OpenAI expects 200 MW will go live in 2026, developed with partners including G42, Oracle, Nvidia, Cisco, and Soft bank.
This is apparently the first partnership under ‘OpenAI For Countries’, their new global initiative to help interested governments build sovereign A.I capability in coordination with the U.S government. Via this partnership UAE will become the first country in the world to enable ChatGPT nationwide.
So you can now see that electricity is the new boss/emperor and going forward it must be on the forefront on everything you theorize about as a forward base individual.

The headline on Futurism: Researchers Just Found Something Extremely Alarming About AI’s Power Usage. I said hmm… In a new paper researchers from open source AI platform ‘Hugging Face’ found that the energy demands of text -to video generators QUADRUPLE when the length of a generated video doubles - indicating that the power required for increasingly sophisticated generations doesn’t SCALE LINEARLY. An example, is a six second AI clip consumes four times as much as a three second clip.
These environmental impacts show the structural inefficiency of the current diffusion pipelines and the urgent need for efficiency oriented design the researchers concluded. For me it says we are setting up an energy crisis that the masses have no idea. The people will assume that the government and these A.I companies have all of this stuff figured out when that is not the case. This is something that must be monitored in the immediate future. As your energy bill goes up I hope you remember this!

This may be your best article so far, AK. i get that futurism mag now too cuz of you. Also, Technocracy Today just had a piece on the NEW West Virginia data center that took over a valley and encroaches on all the surrounding natural beauty. This is not the data center they already have, but a brand new killer infrastructure! Ok, enough of me here. i hope and pray your phone problem worked out somehow in your favor.
spending nearly all of the last 40 years researching, writing about, and getting shunned by not only the media and "environmentalists, you don't know the half of it. I have tombs of papers that total some 60,000 pages on each of the points I am about to make. Over 200,00 pages in some.
Point one: All energy that is natural does in fact renews the environment of the earth.
Point two: When any energy is transformed into an energy production system it is no longer natural. ANY ENERGY, including solar, wreaks havoc and alters the environment when it is formulated into a system to collect that energy and form into another form of energy.
Point Three: The energy efficiency is often shrugged off as unimportant, but that's like saying it wouldn't be important if half of your body's energy were siphoned from it, then you would need to burn twice as many calories to achieve the energy your body needs. That is what all energy systems that are created by man to control energy achieve accomplish. To control energy, even by such means as solar takes more than twice as much energy than the energy originally expended by the sun and the process of creating that energy always forces an environmental readjustment and there is just no environmentally sound energy when man implants his control over that energy.
If we cannot learn that we can only use less energy than we have without attempting to control it in a way to manufacture more energy then we cease to be because we run out of energy, even the energy we need to survive.
No one wants to hear that..and environmentalists groups have told me for years that if we actually explained these truths to people the environmental incentives would evaporate.
So be it, if we don't our attempts to control the environmental will soon enough evaporate us not into the dust we were but into the gasses that are the only thing that remains of what had been an energy rich environmental that had been earth.
