You’re right, the Oprah quote is good. In my so-called ‘profession’ as a language teacher, I note that the most successful students are those whose focus is always on what they do have in their language armoury (vocabulary) and not what they don’t have – so if you are listening and reading, don’t get fixated on what you did not understand, but keep your mind trained on what you did, if you are speaking or writing, use everything you have and don’t waste time lamenting about what you don’t have, and it’s as she says, this is the mindset that operates as a magnet to draw in even more vocabulary and resources, whereas the opposing mindset will drive out even what you already had…. So it’s fractal patterns: ‘as above, so below’ – the same pattern, repeated, everywhere

It’s easy to forget to be grateful for what we have when we’re always reaching for something better or comparing ourselves to others. Being ambitious and chasing goals is great—as long as it doesn’t come at the expense of our mental health.
